The 2019 Ford Explorer is the top of the mark for family SUVs in the Ford lineup. It’s a popular choice among those in the market because it’s a three-row SUV that fits people or gear with ease that drivers crave. Here’s an overview of why the 2019 Ford Explorer should be at the top of your list.

Exterior Style

The 2019 Ford Explorer is made for handling the challenges of daily life which is why it has a modern exterior style. It has a clean look and doesn’t have any overly adorned features which make it ideal for doing everything from driving to work and errands, to doing the school carpool. Alloy wheels do come standard on all Explorer trims as do tinted windows and a black grille. If you opt for the Ford Platinum trim, LED headlights come as a standard upgrade.

Performance

The Explorer comes with a 3.5-liter V-6 engine on the base and XLT trims. It produces 290 horsepower and 255 pound-feet of torque. It offers enough power for almost any situation. If your Explorer does any kind of climbing, consider opting for the 2.3-liter Turbo-4 with 280 horsepower and 310 pound-feet of torque. The Explorer Sport and Platinum trims have a 3.5-liter twin-turbo V-6 with 365 horsepower and 350 pound-feet of torque. Explorer is capable of towing. Expect the 2.3-liter engine to tow up to 3,000 pounds while the twin turbo V-6 tows up to 5,000 pounds.

Interior Features

Inside of the Explorer is an 8-way power driver’s seat. If you opt for one of the higher trim levels, the passenger seat also has a power adjustment feature. Cloth upholstery is standard on most trims and there are options for leather as well. The Explorer Platinum receives higher quality leather upholstery and if you opt for the limited or higher trims, massaging seats are another option.

The second row has decent space for passengers. A bench seat is standard and captain’s chairs are optional. Kids will feel at home in either the second or third row. As far as cargo space goes, there’s quite a bit of room to haul items around when the second and third rows fold down with 73 cubic feet of space. This drops to 39.2 cubic feet with the third row in place and 21 cubic feet when all rows are upright.

Tech features include Apple CarPlay and Android Auto on an 8.0-inch infotainment system starting as an option on the XLT trim.

Safety

Seven air bags are standard on the Ford Explorer. If you want to add the latest safety tech, start with the options you can add on the XLT trim and above. Package options include collision detection, adaptive cruise control, and an automatic emergency braking system.
