Located in the southwestern suburbs of Boston, the city of Norwood, MA is close to some of the best fishing spots in the region. Whether you are looking for a pond or a pier along the shores of Massachusetts Bay, these are some destinations you should not miss. Grab your gear, pack some good bait, and hit the road to one of these excellent fishing destinations, all of which can be reached in less than two hours by car.

Blue Hills Reservation

With an area of 7,000 acres, Blue Hills Reservation is a beautiful state park established in 1893 and managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. Thanks to its several ponds, scenic views, and varied terrain, it has become one of the top-rated weekend destinations among groups of friends and families from the Boston metropolitan area. Apart from several miles of hiking trails and some designated fishing areas, this reservation is also home to numerous historic buildings and monuments.

The fishing opportunities at Blue Hills Reservation attract anglers from all over the region. Two of the reservation's bodies of water, Houghton's Pond and Pine Tree Brook, are regularly stocked with trout. Some other fish species that can be found in the reservation include largemouth bass, rainbow trout, and chain pickerel. Getting here from downtown Norwood takes less than 15 minutes by car, driving about 8 miles northeast along route I-95.

Cochituate State Park

Cochituate State Park is another popular recreation area in eastern Massachusetts. Spanning an area of almost 900 acres, it welcomes visitors from all over the state with activities and outdoor sports, including windsurfing, kayaking, fishing, canoeing, boating, sailing, and swimming. The park is managed by the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation and encompasses three sections of Lake Cochituate, with different boating and fishing regulations applying to each of them.

Getting to the main entrance of Cochituate State Park from downtown Norwood takes less than half an hour by car, driving 23 miles northwest along routes I-95 and I-90. Once you are here, head to the shores of Lake Cochituate and try your luck with the excellent specimens of largemouth bass, northern pike, channel catfish, trout, chain pickerel, and muskellunge that abound in its waters. All anglers must hold a valid license to access the designated fishing areas.

Webb Memorial State Park

Covering the entire area of a small peninsula extending into Hingham Bay, Webb Memorial State Park welcomes anglers and other visitors with a vast array of activities and outdoor sports. Some of the most commonly caught fish species in the area include chain pickerel, rock bass, and striped bass. Getting to this state park from the city of Norwood takes a little over half an hour by car, driving about 20 miles northeast along route I-93.
