Signal Hill Reservation

If you’re in the mood for a lovely, long scenic walk, this 150-acre protected space is perfect! The Signal Hill Reservation has great walking trails, and once you summit the 188-foot peak, you’ll have magnificent views of the Boston City Skyline and Great Blue Hill. If you’re more of a water baby, check out the frogs and turtles on your way down to the river, where you can launch a canoe or kayak.

Make sure to pack your binoculars! Songbirds build their nests in trees all around the park, and hawks love to drift on thermal drafts up above. Avid bird-watchers will undoubtedly get their fill of good sightings. We loved learning about the rich history of the area before visiting. This way, the stories of the paleo-Americans who settled the Neponset River Valley and used Signal Hill as their home became more vivid and real.

Francis William Bird Park

The Francis William Bird Park was commissioned in 1925 in memory of Francis Bird. It was designed by John Nolan, who believes that relaxation time should also be filled with fun and play. To this end, the park is full of recreational activities for you and your family to enjoy between walks and food. There are over three miles of walking paths, so you can try something a little different every time you visit.

The park features four tennis courts, a “tot lot” playground for little ones, and a basketball net for hours of family fun. When you have exhausted yourselves with activities, spread your picnic blanket on one of the lawns and savor the stunning nature all around you.

Mass Audubon’s Moose Hill Wildlife Sanctuary

Mass Audubon’s oldest wildlife sanctuary is not to be missed on your driving tour of the most beautiful views in Norwood. The sanctuary contains protected forests, wetlands, and picturesque fields. Enjoy exploring one of the many hiking trails, each with its own unique features, and spend some time strolling the red maple swamp boardwalk for something a little different.
