The state of Massachusetts is filled with beautiful nature. Even the biggest towns and cities in the Bay State are surrounded by beautiful green spaces. Of course, Norwood, MA is no exception. If you’re looking to enjoy some fantastic outdoor activities, there are plenty to be had around town.
1. Enjoy the Beach at Willet Pond
On hot days, there’s nothing better than going to the beach! The nearest beach to Norwood is on Willet Pond. Offering access to the 220-acre pond, the sandy beach is the perfect place to picnic, kayak, or just sit and watch the world go by.
Please note, no motorized boats are allowed on the water, and swimming is not permitted. The beach is open from dawn to dusk and is accessible via Brook Street in Walpole.
2. Hike the Endean Trail
Hiking is one of the best ways to enjoy the great outdoors. There are plenty of great places for a stroll in and around Norwood, but one of the best is Endean Trail. The 2-mile out and back trail features luscious woodland and a gently flowing river, providing plenty of great views.
There’s also plenty of wildlife to be seen along your walk. A variety of bird species can be seen in the trees, and you may be lucky enough to see the turtles and frogs that make their home in the river. Please note, the trail is a little bumpy at times, so may not be suitable for those with mobility problems.
3. Enjoy an Outdoor Concert at Adams Farm
Everyone loves a little live music. And if you’re looking to enjoy some toe-tapping tunes in the great outdoors, Adams Farm is the place to be. This 365-acre site regularly plays host to concerts in the warmer months, with a range of acts from rock to country playing to appreciative crowds. The atmosphere is electric, and enjoying some top-class music while feeling a cool summer breeze on your face just can’t be beat!
Music isn’t the only thing to do at Adams Farm. Depending on the season, visitors can enjoy skiing, birdwatching, picnicking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and much more! There’s a visitor center offering maps and advice, helping you to get the most out of your trip. The farm is located on North Street in Walpole, close to route 109.
4. Learn About Nature at Medfield Rhododendron Reservation
This unique natural area contains one of only 7 populations of rare Rosebay rhododendrons. Visitors can wander the trails that wind between the tree trunks, taking in the sight of these mighty rhododendrons which were once common in the Appalachian Mountains.
Please be aware of the regulations in place to protect the rare trees onsite. No dogs or bicycles are allowed within the reservation, and trees should not be damaged in any way.
